Lincoln Park — Lincoln Park fire officials have until Sept. 4 to persuade a reluctant City Council to accept a $600,000 federal grant that would maintain current fire department staffing levels.

A controversial federal fire grant finally will paying off starting Sept. 17. Laid-off firefighters will be called back for the A, B and C shifts through Sept. 20 with funding provided by the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant.

The Michigan Court of Appeals today affirmed the right of working families to vote on a proposal to preserve collective bargaining. The initiative now will be placed on the Nov. 6 ballot.
