Dec. 20, 2013: Brandyn Thurman served with the Hamtramck Fire Department from 2006-2013 before suffering a duty back injury that shortened his career. He has his third surgery for this injury set for early next year. Brandyn is married with one young son and another on the way in February. His forced disability retirement only provides them with a fraction of his regular pay. Our brother Brandyn and his family now need your help! Dec. 19, 2013: The Alpena Fire Department was awarded a grant check from Jack Peet, traffic safety manager of AAA Michigan, for $16,000 toward the purchase of a new Jaws of Life Wednesday. The Jaws of Life is a resuce tool that use hydraulics to cut through, spread, and assist in extricating victims from small spaces, such as in a crashed vehicle. Read more:
