APRIL 17, 2014: Sleep deprivation. We have all experienced it after a long shift in which you were up all night on calls. This sleep deprivation is cumulative and can lead to sleep debt. If your body is unable to recover and get some rest, this sleep debt can lead to health issues. Read more:

APRIL 17, 2014: The City of Kentwood is accepting applications for full time firefighters. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, high school graduates or equivalent, have current Michigan driver's license with 6 points or less. April 16, 2014: William Ede Jr., 75, recently returned to Sterling Heights Fire Station No. 5 to thank the heroes who saved his life when he suffered full cardiopulmonary arrest Feb. 13. "We're obviously thrilled by the progress William has made in his recovery and appreciate the time he took to meet us," said Assistant Chief Dennis Adler. Read more:

April 14, 2014: If everything goes the way city officials outlined in its denied application for $7.9 million in Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response funding, there will be fewer firefighters and fire stations in Flint beginning in June. Read more:

April 10, 2014: As call volume has grown during the past five years, Washington Township Fire Chief Brian Tyrell said his staff has become overwhelmed when it comes to dispatching firefighters and EMS crews. The problem will be rectified as of June 1 with the approval of a new dispatch agreement with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office dispatch center, approved by the Washington Township Board of Trustees at its April 2 meeting. April 7, 2014: The flashy, grand prize is the same, but there’s a twist. A 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible is big draw for the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive’s annual Burn Drive Car Raffle, which will be April 29. The twist is that it’s not just a Dearborn event anymore because the department also began covering Melvindale last year. Read more:
