Firefighters ratified a “brutal” tentative agreement that goes to the City Commission tonight for approval. The 54 members of the Professional Firefighters Local 431 overwhelming accepted a 2.5 percent wage cut, paying 20 percent of their health care premium – they didn’t pay any of it previously – and increased pension contributions among other changes.

Discussions are under way to have Westland Fire Chief Michael Reddy serve as top administrator for both the Westland and Wayne fire departments as a cost-saving measure.
