ALLEN PARK — The city is considering outsourcing its Fire Department to save money as it looks to make up a $2.5 million budget shortfall for the 2011-12 fiscal year, which ends June 30.

St. Joseph firefighters have approved a new contract with the city, running through 2015. The ratification paves the way for the city to have a combined Department of Public Safety, with police crosstrained to fight fires. City Manager Frank Walsh says the new department will not cost as much as the current setup.

BAY CITY, MI — The Great Lakes Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross has selected a Bay City firefighter as one of 24 area recipients of the Everyday Heroes Award for his efforts in saving a little girl from her burning home.

DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - Three Dearborn firefighters were able to climb to safety after the roof they were standing on collapsed during a fire at a dry cleaning store.
