Redford residents will have a second vote in six months on a special assessment district to help fund police and fire services.

TAYLOR — The Fire Department moved one step closer to rehiring more than 30 laid-off firefighters. Fire Chief Robert Tompos was told by the Federal Emergency Management Agency that it planned to announce Staffing for Fire and Adequate Response grant recipients Friday.

Traverse City was looking at a roughly $600,000 budget deficit.




JACKSON, MI — The Jackson Fire Department will likely hire nine additional firefighters with money provided by a federal grant.

The possible consolidation of the Bay City fire and police departments was discussed tonight at a special Finance Policy Committee meeting that drew a crowd of about 45, mostly from the two departments. While talks about money are driving the plan, it is a five-year rollout that will not be decided before the 2012-13 budget must be passed by the end of June.

Hamtramck— Like other cash-strapped Metro Detroit communities, leaders here are asking the public safety departments to help close a $3.5 million spending gap by 2013.

The Ann Arbor Fire Department will receive a $642,294 grant to hire new firefighters and to help retain current first responders.
