EGELSTON TOWNSHIP, MI --The Egelston Township Fire Department has secured a $128,000 grant that the fire chief said could help them bulk up its staff and recognize those who have served the department for years.
The Ann Arbor city council has authorized a revision to its FY 2013 budget that will allow for staffing of three additional firefighters for the next two years, bringing the budgeted staffing level for firefighters from 82 to 85.

LANSING – A referendum on Michigan’s controversial emergency manager law was approved for the Nov. 6 ballot this afternoon by a state elections panel, which had no choice after being ordered to act last week by the Supreme Court.
Slightly over 5 mills of that levy will be earmarked for fire and EMS, with just over 1.62 mills going to police services. Township officials estimate the millages, taken together, are expected to produce $5.6 million.
