      MPFFU FIRE OPS 101

The MPFFU recently conducted its annual Fire OPS 101 for State Legislator's and key staff members at Lansing Community College.  The program included actually putting the participants in fire fighter protective clothing, donning self-contained breathing apparatus, handling hose lines, patient extrication, EMS activities, and other firefighter tasks.  Obviously, this was a controlled situation, but nevertheless, it provided an opportunity for participants and observers to see and feel what fire fighters deal with on a daily basis.

The MPFFU thanks all of the participants and also the firefighters that served as instructors and guides during the event. Special thanks to State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer for assisting, LCC for hosting the event, and David Weisenberg for coordinating and arranging for all of the items necessary to conduct the event. Shown below are a few pictures from the event.  Here is a link to several more pictures.

Meet your 2019 House and Senate Members

By now you know that almost all the candidates endorsed by the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union, from the top to the bottom of the ticket, were elected to office on November 6th.  The entire MPFFU membership should be proud of the role our organization and its members played in getting these great candidates elected.  The MPFFU is also grateful for the assistance provided by the IAFF to many of our endorsed candidates.

But our work is just beginning now that we have new friends in Lansing and Washington.  We must continue to be politically active and get to know these newly elected officials as well as their staffs.  You may also find some doors now open to establish a better relationship with incumbents that previously refused to meet with you.  Stay involved - Stay active!
